in fact, there is pretty much nothing that makes authors-who-work-in-bookstores happier than selling someone their book. (especially if they don't have to convince you to buy it.) bonus: she can sign it for you! also BookCourt will most certainly be having a launch party for her, altho it is not on their calendar yet, and those are always fun.

l am really looking forward to Emma Straub's book.

Question: I work not far from Book Court. Is it gauche to buy Emma Straub's book from . . . Emma Straub? Is that the literary equivalent of wearing a band's t-shirt to their concert? What is the etiquette on this?

hmmmmmmmmmm that is a tough one. i would say start with LOST EVERYTHING because it's the new one and then you'll be up to speed for the reading, (and really it's soooooooo good) but then pick up LIBERATION next. i should mention that some other folks prefer SPACEMAN BLUES to LIBERATION, so there are differences in taste to consider!

i think the LIBERATION is my favorite is that it's more, well, cheerful than LOST EVERYTHING. more rompy. also i'm a sucker for a good heist team. that being said, LOST EVERYTHING might be a deeper book over all.

I'm really looking forward to Brian Francis Slattery's reading at Word. I haven't read any of his stuff, but have had it recommended to me by several people. Would you say that Liberation is a better introduction to his work than Lost Evetything?

Last week I was at the gym listening to the Bookrageous podcast and wanted to cheer so hard when you mentioned Tamora Pierce. I would reread all her books about once a year while I was in high school. It's been less regular since then, but I still have these moments where I realize that I NEED to revisit her entire catalog. Like right now, even though I'm still reading the latest Beka Cooper - it's been too long since I've read the Lioness books and I want to put down everything else, crawl into bed, and read the hell out of that series.
