Zone One, Colson Whitehead, Oct ’11: i read this whilst also reading DEWEY DECIMAL SYSTEM, and it made me realize that if they were all this good, i would happily read nothing but post-apocalyptic novels set in NYC. this one has ZOMBIES, yo! but, as someone else said and i can’t remember where i heard it first but it was probably bookavore and i am going to paraphrase and mangle it, ZONE ONE is about zombies the same way MOBY-DICK is about a whale.
Running the Rift, Naomi Benaron, January ’12: i am only on page 40, and normally i wait until at least 3/4 of the way through the book to start raving about it. whatever, this book is incredible. it won the Bellwether Prize, which pretty much tells you everything you need to know about it.
